The Plight of Kansas GOP Senator Pat Roberts

Kansas GOP Senator Pat Roberts has a challenging race — lets establish that as a fact. But at the end of the day he will win. In campaigns, especially, things are generally never as ‘bad’ as they first appear nor as ‘good’ as they first appear. Right now, the ‘bad’ narrative hovering over Roberts’ re-elect is worse than the reality.

R000307Roberts campaign manager ran such a horrendous primary race that voters had no opportunity to revisit Roberts’ long record of helping the state of Kansas, and helping Kansans from all walks of life.

That now changes. Roberts’ record — once revived and discussed on the campaign trail and in paid media — will stabilize his ballot position and bring the campaign discussion back to more favorable terms for the incumbent.

Now to Greg Orman, the ‘independent’ challenger. He remains largely unknown, walks, talks and acts like a liberal Democrat, and has been challenged on virtually nothing he has stated on the record. That, of course, is about to change.

The fact Orman will not rule out caucusing and joining Harry Reid if he were to win will end up being highly problematic, and when pressed, begin forcing him into a left wing box on a host of issues.

Roberts will recover and win.
